What Is Healing?
There are many different methods of healing and if you spend some time researching you may well get confused: Spiritual or faith healing, reiki, seichem, energy healing, ascension healing, kahuna healing, and many more.
Personally I believe that they’re all essentially the same (although they may be taught in different ways). I also believe that we’re all capable of providing energy for ourselves and others. Whether the recipient takes it on board is another matter.
Giving healing to someone can be as simple as
- holding the hand of a loved one
- wishing for them to get better
- or sending a text to let them know that you are thinking of them
Let’s face it a ‘get well soon’ card is only a piece of paper until you take the time to write a message and send it to a loved one. Then it has an energy, it brings a smile, it cheers them up, and brightens their day. And that is very powerful.
In a more defined way, healing is about sending universal energy (or perhaps love) to another with the intention that they get well or feel better. This could be in the form of a prayer, or any one of hundreds of methods from around the world. Healing can be sent out for a physical condition, state of mind or simply to help get someone through a difficult patch.
Does Healing Work?
It’s very important to say that I can make no claim on being able to diagnose, treat or cure a medical condition. It is also important to make the distinction between healing and curing.
However, many people do report that they feel better, or get better more quickly after they have received either ‘Hands-On’ or ‘Distance Healing’ including myself and a lot of my friends.
Having been part of a circle that regularly sends healing energy, I know many powerful stories that have been told to us following a healing session.
Maybe it’s a placebo, maybe it’s psychological, maybe it’s even a coincidence. I don’t really care how people come to:
- feel better,
- recover quicker,
- have unusually positive reactions and test results
as in some of the stories I have heard, the important thing is that something has happened for them.
Some Research Studies Have Been Done
Below is an excerpt from ‘The Field’ by Lynne McTaggart which details of the result of a study in to the effects of healing.
“Perhaps the most impressive human study had been carried out by physician Randolph Byrd in 1988. It had attempted in a randomized, double-blind trial whether remote prayer would have any effect on patients in a coronary care unit. Over ten months, nearly 400 patients were divided in to two groups, and only half (unbeknownst to them) were prayed for by Christians outside the hospital. All patients had been evaluated, and there was no statistical difference in their condition before treatment. However, after treatment, those who’d been prayed for had significantly less severe symptoms, and required less assistance on a ventilator, and fewer antibiotics and diuretics than patients who hadn’t been prayed for.” (R. C. Byrd, ‘Positive Therapeutic effects of intercessory prayer in a coronary care unit population’, Southern Medical Journal, 1988; 81(7): 826-9.)
In the same book, Lynne McTaggart writes the following about a lengthy and detailed research project undertaken by F.Sicher and E. Targ,
“The results were inescapable. No matter which type of healing they used, no matter what their view of a higher being, the healers were dramatically contributing to the physical and psychological well-being of their patients.” (F. Sicher and E. Targ et al., ‘A randomized double-blind study of the effect of distant healing in a population with advanced AIDS: report of a small scale study’, Western Journal of Medicine, 1998; 168(6) 356-63)
Can Anyone Do Healing?
YES! All you need is the intention for another to feel better. You will find all sorts of courses and workshops to help you develop your skills and knowledge. I’ve also written a book about healing and universal energy called ‘The Power In Your Hands’.
I personally love the system known as reiki. It gives a framework for people to learn about healing energy and consciously be able to channel it. I know that I can teach anyone using this method. But you don’t need to have a certificate. You may find that you’re quite the natural. Learning with others however, can give you confidence, experience, knowledge, oh and it’s great fun!
